The Trace of Kandia

The documentary

To tell this singing legend, I suggested to his son Kaabi, who lives in France, that he return to Guinea to retrace the footsteps of Kandia, revisit the places, meet the witnesses and search for the man his father was behind the legend of his golden voice. So Kaabi went from Manta, his father’s home village, to Conakry, the capital, to gather the secrets of his elders. Among all these elders, he was able to find the last remaining former musicians of the National Instrumental Ensemble, old accomplices of his father whom Kandia had nicknamed “his government”.
