THE DOCUMENTARY
Aimé Césaire, born in Basse-Pointe, moved to Paris between the two world wars to study. It was during this time that he understood the importance of speaking about Black consciousness. The writer, who invented the concept of “negritude,” returned to his island at the dawn of the world conflict to teach literature. After the war, driven by the hope of change, Césaire was drawn into politics and became a member of the Communist Party before founding the Martinique Progressive Party (PPM).
A look back at the exceptional life of Aimé Césaire, between the visionary humanist commitment of the poet and the difficult struggle of the politician.
