THE DOCUMENTARY
Over the past 50 years, humans have taken over the entire planet.
Japan, constrained by its insularity, forces wildlife to adapt. Some animals leave in search of new territories or, on the contrary, stay to coexist, while others choose the night as their ultimate refuge… The animal kingdom must choose and pass it on to the next generation.
Japan, a New Wild World recounts adaptation strategies to climate change and the omnipresence of humans.
The idea for this documentary film stems from a global observation: the human population continues to increase. This observation is leading to a drastic reduction in the natural spaces sheltering wild species. Due to its insular nature, Japan’s borders are natural. It is impossible for species to escape. They must therefore adapt. Faced with these spatial constraints, animals take their destiny into their own hands and find solutions to live alongside us. Some of them, no longer able to flee into space, will adapt and, thus, escape into time. The night then becomes their new habitat.
