Mitterrand and overseas territories

THE DOCUMENTARY SERIES

François Mitterrand’s presidency revolutionized relations between the French overseas territories and mainland France. From decentralization to the integration of the overseas territories into the European Community, including the terrorist attacks of the 1980s and the tragedy in Ouvéa in 1988, this series tells the story of how the former French Minister of Overseas France under the “colonial” empire became the first left-wing president of the French overseas territories.
